Celebrating Australia Awards’ impact in Sri Lanka in 2024

Australia Awards – Sri Lanka has released its 2024 Year in Review, showcasing significant achievements and outcomes from last year. This document highlights the impact of Australia Awards through Scholarships, short-term training and alumni engagement.
Key highlights from the Year in Review for Sri Lanka include:
- Forty-one Sri Lankans (25 women, 16 men) completed their degrees with the support of Australia Awards Scholarship, the highest number since 2015.
- Twenty-five diverse applicants (17 women, 8 men) from Sri Lanka received Scholarships for study commencing in 2025, including nine from ethnic minority groups and one person with disability.
- Australia Awards provided scholars with opportunities to connect with Indigenous Australians through Australia Awards activities, deepening their understanding of Indigenous culture and traditions.
- Sri Lankan alumni participated in Women in Leadership Network initiatives in Sri Lanka and across the region, expanding their professional connections and exchanging insights.
- Australia Awards supported six Sri Lankans to participate in four separate Australian Professional Opportunities, one of which saw two Sri Lankan disability advocates participate in a Disability Champions study tour.
Sri Lankan scholar Ragutharan Sanmukarasa, who is studying a Master of Clinical Rehabilitation at Flinders University, said, “Australia Awards are more than just Scholarships. They are life-changing opportunities that empower individuals to unlock their full potential and make a meaningful impact on the world.”
