Australia Awards South and West Asia

The Sri Lanka Association of the Australia Awards Alumni (SLAAAA) organized a post Flood Relief Program on 8 July 2017 at the Pasgoda Divisional Secretariat in the Matara district with the coordination of the Divisional Secretary, Pasgoda.

The floods that occurred in May 2017 is considered one of the worst natural disasters in Sri Lanka that affected 15 districts, killing at least 208 people with 78 reported missing. The flooding severely affected the Matara district, making it one of the worst affected districts requiring both national and international support.

School kits including stationery items, shoes and uniforms were distributed by Committee Members of the SLAAAA to 100 school children in the Matara district who were affected by the flood.
