Scholar aims to improve groundwater hydrology in Sri Lanka

Lasindu Kotavila from Sri Lanka is studying a Master of Science (Groundwater Hydrology) at Flinders University with the support of an Australia Awards Scholarship. In the following video, Lasindu reflects on his experience and notes the differences between life in Australia and his home country.


Lasindu appreciates that the Australia Awards Scholarship allowed him to bring his family to Australia with him, providing them with a new and exciting experience.

Lasindu works as an irrigation engineer in Sri Lankas and sees his master’s degree as a professional requirement. He emphasises the importance of seeking knowledge in the water sector, particularly groundwater, and he considers his Scholarship a rare opportunity to access the best sources of expertise globally. Lasindu values the close relationship between students and professors in Australia, and highlights the support system available for addressing challenges. He believes that his master’s degree will help him contribute more effectively to planning and implementing sustainable solutions for the benefit of his country.
